Wildlife Habitat Canada is dedicated to nurturing abundant and diverse wildlife populations across the nation, achieved through strategic collaboration and informed conservation investments. At the core of our mission is the conservation of vital habitats, with a special focus on wetlands, upland habitats, and the protection of ecologically sensitive lands.
Our objectives include leveraging conservation funding, restoring habitats to preserve wildlife diversity, and leading collaborative efforts within the Canadian conservation community.
Our strategic priorities involve working alongside conservation partners to amplify our impact, supporting national conservation and climate initiatives, and encouraging Canadians to actively engage in nature conservation. By doing so, we aim to ensure the conservation and protection of Canadian wildlife habitats, foster a deeper connection between Canadians and nature, and establish Wildlife Habitat Canada as a beacon of conservation leadership, ensuring a legacy of diverse and healthy wildlife for generations to come.

Art Competition
Wildlife Habitat Canada invites Canadian wildlife artists to participate in our national wildlife art competition, which is held annually to select the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp and Print image.

Be the Change Earth Alliance
CCAP 25-914: FLOW: Youth Collaborating on Freshwater Action.
Project Accomplishments:
- Empowered youth climate action — Delivered 32 action-oriented workshops to 364 students, inspiring measurable change: 1.55 million kg CO₂ reduced, 1.3 million L water saved, and 1.5 tonnes of plastic waste prevented.
- Expanded outdoor education — Hosted 7 hands-on field sessions reaching nearly 190 youth, combining climate imagination workshops and habitat cleanups that removed 44 kg of waste from 4 hectares of habitat.
- Enhanced educator capacity — Provided freshwater-focused learning resources to 168 teachers, with 80+ receiving professional-development training to strengthen environmental and climate education in classrooms.
Nova Scotia Nature Trust
NHCP-LTCF Large Grants APP17: Blanche Peninsula
Project Accomplishments:

Protected Major Coastal Property: Secured 638 ha (17 parcels) with 10 km of undeveloped coastline, safeguarding rare coastal forests, bogs, barrens, and wetlands—critical as only 5% of Nova Scotia’s coast is protected.

Advanced Key Conservation Priorities: Strengthened Southwest Nova Biosphere Reserve and Atlantic Flyway connectivity, protecting habitat for migratory birds and species at risk, and advancing Canada’s 30×30 goal.

Ensured Perpetual Protection: Eliminated development threats through Nova Scotia Nature Trust ownership, guaranteeing long-term biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and public access for education and research.
Friends of Salmonier Nature Park
STAMP 25-205: NFLD & Labrador Inclusion & Outdoor Involvement and Investment
Project Accomplishments:
- Delivered two successful Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) weekends, exceeding attendance goals and introducing hundreds of women to new outdoor and shooting skills.
- Hosted Youth Hunter Skills workshops and Becoming an Outdoors Family sessions for newcomers and families, fostering appreciation for wildlife and wetland ecosystems.
- Offered Taste of BOW programming for Indigenous communities, promoting healing, connection, and confidence through shared outdoor experiences.
Nature Nova Scotia
CCAP 25-913: Mainland Moose Conservation Initiative: Engaging Nova Scotians in Citizen Science Action for Moose Conservation
Project Accomplishments:
- Reached 739 individuals across 12 events province-wide, including markets, workshops, and guided hikes that fostered lasting community interest in moose conservation.
- Established a formal data-sharing agreement with the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (DNRR) and collaborated with 16 organizations across Nova Scotia to advance monitoring and outreach.
- Increased awareness about the endangered status of mainland moose, especially among urban and newcomer communities.

NHCP-LTCF Small Grants APP10: Simon Bay Project
Project Accomplishments:

Protected Lake Huron Shoreline: Permanently conserved 19.6 acres (7.9 ha) of Provincially Significant shoreline habitat, preventing development and maintaining ecological connectivity on the Northern Bruce–Saugeen Peninsula.

Safeguarded Species and Rare Ecosystems: Protected fen, alvar, dune, and coniferous forest habitats supporting species at risk such as the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, endangered bats, and Red-headed Woodpecker.

Enhanced Climate and Biodiversity Resilience: Maintained a carbon sink (78 t CO₂/year), preserved fish spawning habitat identified by the Saugeen-Ojibway Nation, and strengthened biodiversity within the Great Lakes coastal corridor.
The Nature Trust of New Brunswick
STAMP 25-104: Wetland Restoration within the EHJV Priority Aukpaque EcoDistrict
Project Accomplishments:
- Restored and enhanced key habitats — Successfully restored 580 acres of wetlands, 94 acres of riparian, and 12 acres of upland habitat, exceeding initial goals and improving ecosystem resilience for waterfowl and other species.
- Strengthened monitoring and stewardship — Conducted baseline bird surveys, installed solar-powered recording units, and engaged 45 volunteers and 400 local landholders in restoration and monitoring activities.
- Built long-term restoration capacity — Established a Restoration Working Group and developed a multi-year restoration plan covering 952 acres, creating a strong foundation for continued wetland conservation across New Brunswick.
