Wildlife Habitat Canada Honoured with Viceregal Patronage

Ottawa, ON — August 13, 2025 – Wildlife Habitat Canada (WHC) is proud to announce that it has received Viceregal Patronage from the Governor General of Canada, a distinction that reflects national recognition for the organization’s leadership in wildlife habitat conservation.

Viceregal Patronage is a long-standing tradition in Canada, granted to select organizations whose work serves the public good and aligns with the Governor General’s priorities. This official support underscores the importance of WHC’s mission to conserve, restore, and enhance wildlife habitats across the country.

“For over four decades, WHC has worked in partnership with communities, landowners, Indigenous organizations, and conservation groups to protect the natural spaces that are vital to Canada’s biodiversity,” said Jessica Burns, Executive Director. “Receiving Viceregal Patronage is both an honour and an affirmation of the impact we strive to make for wildlife and future generations.”

Since its founding in 1984, WHC has invested millions of dollars in conservation projects from coast to coast to coast, funding initiatives that safeguard critical habitats for migratory birds, species at risk, and countless other wildlife. This recognition by the Governor General not only celebrates past achievements but also strengthens the organization’s ability to inspire support for its future conservation work.

With this patronage, WHC continues its commitment to connecting Canadians with nature, engaging youth in conservation, and leading collaborative efforts that protect what matters most — the habitats that sustain Canada’s wildlife.
