The 2027 Featured Species is the Black Scoter. One of the least-known sea ducks in North America, the Black Scoter is a striking species found along Canada’s coasts during migration and winter. The male is jet black with a bright orange knob at the base of his bill, while the female is brown with a pale cheek patch. These diving ducks are often seen bobbing in waves and diving for mollusks and aquatic invertebrates in coastal waters.
