Wildlife Habitat Canada (WHC) has been funding on-the-ground habitat conservation projects for over 40 years, largely using funds provided by migratory game bird hunters through their purchase of the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp. Stamp revenues have reduced in recent years, while the loss of wildlife habitat continues to dramatically increase: climate change, invasive species, wetland loss, pollution and other challenges are all impacting the future of Canada’s wildlife.
Michael Phippen, a Past Chair of WHC’s Board of Directors, has contributed countless volunteer hours and financial resources over the years to help conserve our wildlife. He has decided that he wants to do more, and to remember his son with the establishment of the Gregory N. Phippen Memorial Fund.
Michael’s words speak to the Fund and his son better than we ever could:
“When my son Greg was a young boy, he, much like the Old Man, became enamored with wildlife. Like many kids, he spent as much time as he could outside – preferably in the woods or on the water. He became an avid angler and hunter, and with his Labrador retriever Sam, got his first grouse at age 12. Duck and goose hunting became his favourite activities and every fall, he was always anxious for opening day.
We lost Greg on Good Friday in 2003 to a pulmonary embolism. He was 25. I don’t need to tell you how hard that was. We want to commemorate Greg’s life by celebrating and supporting his love of the outdoors and particularly, his passion for hunting, which helped him through some challenging times.”
The goal is to create a Fund that will become a resource for organizations in their wildlife conservation efforts and in the support and celebration of Canada’s hunting heritage. Funds donated to the Gregory N. Phippen Memorial Fund will be invested by WHC into furthering wildlife habitat conservation and the future of hunting, and hunters, in Canada.
Your donation demonstrates your commitment to both the future of hunting, and the care and conservation of wild places in Canada.
