2013 will be the eighth year that Wildlife Habitat Canada distributes Mentor Lapel Pins to partners to recognize those who volunteer
as mentors during hunting and habitat conservation events.

Over 1,200 Mentor Lapel Pins were distributed last year and the program continues to grow. Wildlife Habitat Canada is proud to
support those in the hunting communities across Canada that are recognizing volunteers who are dedicating their time and expertise
to promote hunting to a new generation.

Background

Wildlife Habitat Canada is proud to support Canada’s hunting community and would like to thank them for their valuable contributions
to wildlife habitat conservation.  In addition to purchasing the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp to validate their annual
Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit, they pay other license fees which directly support wildlife management. Many also attend
conservation fundraising dinners and activities, as well as volunteer on committees and projects benefitting wildlife.

In an effort to address the declining number of hunters in Canada, Wildlife Habitat Canada has created the Mentor Lapel Pin Program.
Wildlife Habitat Canada donates Mentor Lapel pins to organizations across Canada as a way to promote hunting and habitat conservation,
as well as to recognize those passing on the skills and knowledge of hunting to the next generation.

Youth mentoring programs go well beyond the various aspects of hunting and also teach youth about the importance of terrestrial and
aquatic habitat conservation, species diversity, and biodiversity. By educating young people about the need to maintain the quality of
wildlife habitat, we will ensure that future generations, including non-hunters, will enjoy the abundance of wildlife species that we have
today.
